Phoebe loves her food, there is no doubt about that. I just wish I get her to pay attention to something other than food once in awhile – like maybe a hand signal or simple command. When we go to dog training, the instructor wants us to follow the perfectly-prescribed-training-protocol of handing out treats like a human PEZ dispenser. Quite frankly; it is becomes counterproductive real fast.  Phoebe focuses on the treat and training goes out the window. I usually break a tiny training treat into many little pieces, each time dishing out more love than food until her needy side kicks in. Then all I have to do is give her praise and more praise.

I think she would make a real lousy guard dog. I envision a scenario just like you see in comedies. A burglar breaks in and tosses her a steak to keep her quiet. When the steak is gone, she would probably give him a guided tour of where all the valuable are hidden in hopes of getting another morsel of food. Oh well –
